United ISD’s Child Nutrition Program kicked-off National School Lunch Week in a special ceremony held at Matias De Llano Elementary. De Llano 4th and 5th grade students participated in a “Rock The Day” inspired theme in support of Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) campaign aimed to promote healthy eating. The celebration included entertainment from Matias De Llano Choir, directed by Dr. Jose Compean and United High School’s Longhorn Band, directed by Mr. John Malon.
Emilia Davila won the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) art contest for National School Lunch Week (NSLW), which is scheduled for October 9 – 13, 2017. The theme for this years’ statewide competition is ‘You Art What You Eat.’ Ms. Davila submitted her entry last year as a 5th grader at Matias De Llano elementary school. Subsequently, her vision inspired other elementary level posters that are currently being delivered to every elementary school campus across Texas for NSLW. Ms. Davila received an award package, and her artwork will be displayed at the State Capital around March 2018. She is currently attending her first year of middle school at the Trautmann 6th grade campus.
Students across the district are invited to visit the Department of Agriculture web page for fun activities aimed at developing healthy eating habits. Campuses across the district will be showcasing various healthy eating activities.
