UISD welcomed 120 teachers to the District during a new teacher orientation and luncheon held at SAC.The new group of educators is comprised of first-year teachers, as well as teachers who are returning to the profession or have worked outside of the District. This year’s program featured keynote speaker Angela Isenberg, Program Manager for Behavior Studies at Region 13. Isenberg discussed classroom management and strategies designed to help teachers in their quest to advance learning and academic success for their students. During the luncheon, UISD Trustee Javier Montemayor Jr. welcomed the new teachers on behalf of the Board and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. “We have high expectations of our teachers, and fully support you in your quest to help our students reach their full potential. The results of our STAAR exams for the last school year illustrated great improvement across the board, and we expect to continue in that direction. Congratulations to all of you and welcome to the UISD family”, said Montemayor. In addition, Andrea Garza, UISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017 and Region One Teacher of the Year, made a special appearance at the luncheon to share some anecdotes about her stellar teaching career. The Trautmann Middle School band, directed by Jorge Garcia, provided musical entertainment during the luncheon. Celia Rossell-Taboada, Director of Staff Development for UISD, coordinated the seminar and luncheon.”We are excited to have these new teachers in our district. It is customary to provide them with orientation so that they are familiar with our policies, procedures, technology training, and long-term goals. All of us look forward to working with them as they help us continue to create successful classrooms”, she concluded.
